Finite Size Effects in Small Particle Systems`oscar

چکیده
We present the results of Monte Carlo simulations of a model of a γ-Fe 2 O 3 (maghemite) single particle of spherical shape. The magnetic Fe 3+ ions are represented by Ising spins on a spinel lattice that consists on two sublattices with octhaedral and tetrahedral coordination with exchange interactions among them and with an external magnetic field. By varying the particle diameter, we have studied the influence of the finite size of the particle on the equilibrium properties, field cooling magnetization and hysteresis loops. The simulations allow to distinguish the different roles played by the surface and the core spins of the particle on its magnetic properties. We show that for small particle sizes the core is uncoupled from the surface, that behaves as a quasi-independent layer, whereas for bigger particles the surface and the core are coupled and follow the behaviour of the bulk.

Analysis of Changes on Mean Particle Size in a Fluidized Bed using Vibration Signature
Vibration signals were measured in a lab-scale fluidized bed to investigate the changes in particle sizes. Experiments were carried out in the bed with a different mass fraction of coarser particles at different superficial gas velocities, and probe heights. The S-statistic test evaluates the dimensionless squared distance between two attractors reconstructed from time series of vibration signa...
متن کاملStochastic Effects in Microstructure
We are currently studying microstructural responses to diffusion-limited coarsening in twophase materials. A mathematical solution to late-stage multiparticle diffusion in finite systems is formulated with account taken of particle-particle interactions and their microstructural correlations, or “locales”. The transition from finite system behavior to that for an infinite microstructure is esta...
متن کاملInteractional effects of bubble size, particle size, and collector dosage on bubble loading in column flotation
The success of flotation operation depends upon the thriving interactions of chemical and physical variables. In this work, the effects of particle size, bubble size, and collector dosage on the bubble loading in a continuous flotation column were investigated. In other words, this work was mainly concerned with the evaluation of the true flotation response to the changes in the operating varia...

Monte Carlo simulations of a model for g-Fe2O3 ~maghemite! single particle of spherical shape are presented aiming at the elucidation of the specific role played by the finite size and the surface on the anomalous magnetic behavior observed in small particle systems at low temperature. The influence of the finite-size effects on the equilibrium properties of extensive magnitudes, field coolings...
متن کاملOptimization of Iron Oxide Nanoparticle Preparation for Biomedical Applications by Using Box-Behenken Design
Magnetic nanoparticles can bind to different drug delivery systems and can be used for drug targeting to a specific organ by using an external magnetic field as well as used in hyperthermia by heating in alternating magnetic fields. The characteristics of iron oxide nanoparticles are significantly affected by particle size, shape and zeta potential, among which the particle size plays the most ...
